Dix Pratique 35 Assembly Photos

Page 1

Peter Weston in Alice Springs, Northern Australia, is building a Dix Pratique 35 from our pre-cut kit. Follow progress of the project on these pages. Thanks to Peter for providing the photos.

Our kit is to be used in conjunction with design plans supplied by
DUDLEY DIX YACHT DESIGN

Peter Says:

"we would never achieve this accuracy in a hundred years if cutting ourselves, let alone the time factor.
"

Here we see the guys setting up the Jig Cradle that will support the pre-cut plates during assembly.

The Pre-cut parts arrive from the cutting shop. Note the scribe lines on the hull plates that indicate where the frames and stringers are attached. All the parts are numbered with ID numbers that correspond with the assembly drawings that are supplied with the CNC Cutting Files.

Step one, is to lay out all the parts in logical groups. This makes it easy to find the part you are looking for, as well as familiarizing yourself with the parts.

Here we see the upper keel part assembled in the jig.

Another view of the Upper Keel in the Jig awaiting final alignment.

The first bottom plate is in the Jig. If you look closely you will notice there are small tabs on the keel and bottom plate to aid in aligning the weld joint. Talk about attention to detail!

The Bottom Plate of the other side is installed and tacked, and the next plates up are being installed.

The Stringers are installed as each plate is placed.

The deep floors that will make up part of the integral tanks are being placed in this picture. There was some pushing and pulling at this stage to get things to fit....
